Current legislation and consumer awareness relating to food production and handling processes has created an additional burden on food manufacturers.
Under the control of the Food Safety Act 1990, all food manufacturing companies have a paramount duty to their customers and consumers to sell food that is free from food poisoning organisms. The presence of food poisoning, food spoilage and foreign body contamination in foodstuffs is the result of poor hygiene practices and under the current legislation, can directly affect the viability of any food business. Adverse publicity, often followed by loss of valuable business opportunities, causes a serious threat to the survival of a prosecuted company.
In order to ensure that good hygiene standards are maintained during processing and that as a result food leaves the factory in peak condition, food companies must monitor their production processes and environment for the presence of pathogenic organisms. While many large corporations have their own in-house facilities providing this specialist service, for most medium sized and small companies, provision of this type of facility is not economically viable. Microbac Analytica offers a full analytical and technical support service to these companies not able, or willing, to undertake this exercise in-house. A product testing regime will be tailor-made for each customer dependant upon production volumes and customer requirement and will take into consideration commercial aspects of the business in question.
In addition to product testing, Microbac will also advise on environmental monitoring and will design, undertake and control swabbing programmes to monitor cleaning procedures and ensure hygienic processing conditions. If preferred, staff can be trained to carry out the swabbing regimes in-house.
Staff training sessions covering general personal hygiene and safe food handling can also be provided.
